Tetrathlon 2019
Another wonderful weekend at Tattersalls for the annual tetrathlon event. The competitors had mighty craic and we had some great performances and lots learned over the course of the weekend. Lots of tetrathlon first timers gave it everything on what proved to be a tough xc course. A big well done to Aoife (1st placed team) and Bob who ran like the wind to achieve fantastic results in the Senior competition.

tacksheet.htm Important Info re Minimus
Please take time to read the rules of Minimus on the IPC website. In addition to training with the club to help with your training for Minimus, try taking part in a few Hunter Trials. The pre novice and some novice courses are suitable in most cases. Remember the maximum height for Minimus is 80cm. In Minimus also you will have to negotiate a gate and a slip rail. The gate has to be opened and closed from the pony's back and you must dismount to do the slip rail and remount unaided. Practice at home as much as you can and we will have training for this on training days. When competing for the club at inter competitions please take a look on the minimus and tetrathlon tab for a list of equipment and tack checklist tacksheet.htm you will need as tack inspections at these events are very strict!
Full vaccination info also on minimus and tetrathlon tab. Remember all vaccinations must be up to date at least seven days before stabling.
Stabling can be booked through the kildare hunt pony club page
.https://www.itsplainsailing.com/club/khpc
Remember you do not need to be competing at Minimus to avail of all or part of the training. It is a fantastic opportunity for young riders to gain confidence and xc experience.Check List before Minimus Cross Country Tack Inspection
To avoid delays and upsets please check all the following are in order before presenting for tack inspection at any Minimus competition.
Cross Country Clothes
Running Gear
In general, as you are representing your club, please always ensure that your pony is clean and well groomed, that your tack is clean and in good repair. Don't forget it does need to be oiled every now and again to keep it from going hard and being uncomfortable for your pony. Ponies should always be plaited neatly for championships. (it is not always necessary to plait them for friendly/fun days). Hooves should be oiled. Also make sure that your own kit is clean, and white and that boots are clean and polished. White numnahs should be as white as possible and always clean! If you have a grey pony – Quicksilver is brilliant for shampooing.
REMINDER RE VACCINATIONSIf you intend to stable your pony at Punchestown for Minimus you will need to have the correct vaccinations. The following Influenza and Tetanus protocol applies. (1). A Primary Course of TWO injections not less than 21 days or more than 92 days apart. (2). A First Booster must be given 5 - 7 months (not less than 150 days and not more than 215 days) after the second injection of the Primary Course. Thereafter, Annual Boosters are to be given not more than 12 months apart. If at any time an injection is given later than is required under these rules, the whole sequence must be started from the beginning, including the 5 - 7 month booster. Vaccination within 7 days prior to entering the Racecourse Stables is NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR ANY vaccination. If you are unsure, please ask your vet to check your vaccinations NOW. Original Passport must be presented before entering the yard with up to date vaccinations recorded on passport. see https://inside.fei.org/fei/horse-health-and-welfare/int-health-requirements/vaccinations
New BACK PROTECTOR STANDARDS 2018The BETA 2000 BODY PROTECTOR STANDARD WILL NOT BE PERMITTED FOR USE AT 2018 IPC COMPETITIONS. A Body Protector which is EN13158:2009 Level 3 or BETA Level 3 (Purple Label) manufactured in the YEAR 2009 OR AFTER is mandatory for Cross Country and whenever else a body protector is worn. Athletes are strongly recommended to check their body protectors on a regular basis and to replace them if damaged. A body protector should not impede flexibility or balance. Random checks will be made to ensure that the correct body protector is being worn, but it is the athletes responsibility to ensure they are wearing the correct dress (protective headgear, back protectors etc) during comeptitition, in line with the IPC Rules

The team of Romy McCarthy, Lucy O’Donnell & Zoe Stokes managed respectable scores in the shooting to kick off for the Tipps, with Romy being a late call up – thank you Romy! The girls put in good performances in the pool and did very well.
The team successfully navigated a very strong senior XC course with determination. Well done girls you were brave and hardy, as were your mounts! Running was last up on Sunday and the three girls had solid runs holding their place to finish 5th from 9 teams which was brilliant.
Romy recently was selected to represent Ireland in the FEI European Pony Championships in Hungary-a huge congratulations from us all! Lucy and Zoe having both been to the UK representing Ireland in tetrathlon in the past, were on an Irish home intl. senior girls team in tandem with the club, and finished 4th. Zoe also received the silver commendation badge for overall score achieved riding senior tetrathlon.
It is hard to get pull a senior team together and we wish Aoibhin Coady a speedy recovery after an unfortunate mishap at the eventing champs ruling her of the competition. Big thanks to her and her Mum for marking a fence on the day and hopefully we will have her back next year.
2017 Junior Girls
The team of Camille Ryan, Susan Shanahan, Jane O'Donnell, Aoife Murphy provided a couple of very good shooting scores with Camille shooting over 800. The team of Hazel Barden, Lucy Austin, Jessica Stokes and Ruby Ffrench Davis also made a good effort on their debut tetrathlon. Lucy had an amazing + 700 shoot and Hazel and Ruby had a great clear xc. Again all the girls handled the tough track really well. Class girls!
2017 Junior Boys
The team of Robert Wall, Ben Coleman, Yousef Sallam and John Kennedy scored some great shots to start from a really strong position. Some really sound swimming and a scorcher of a run from all four boys earned the team 5th place. A great xc effort from each of the boys rounded off the day very well. Great team effort from everyone.
Bob Barton and Izzy O'Donnell also had a fantastic time in the individaul competion and represented the club so well.
The weekend is quite full on for both parents and athletes – but big thanks to all the trainers and fence judges and fence movers and tent movers … (of course the parents) Hopefully we can keep growing our squad as we have a pool of members that could enjoy the camaraderie and fun of the whole event as well as the competition. All phases offer something for everyone challenging and the squad did us proud.
Hopefully we will see you all next year.
